ACEH: Rescuers from Singapore Civil Defence Force conducting search operations in Bandar Aceh in Indonesia recovered 23 more bodies on Tuesday.

Many were trapped under water or pinned under debris, and power-saws and hydraulic tools had to be used to extricate them.

On Wednesday morning, they found the body of a female infant.

This brings to 70 the number of bodies recovered in Bandar Aceh since December 31.

In Khao Lak, SCDF rescuers joined the Royal Thai Navy to conduct joint search operations along the coast.

They are equipped with inflatable rescue boats to reach and investigate the swampy seaside areas, mainland beaches and off-shore islands.

Seach operations in Khao Lak also continue in six areas, including the Seaview Resort.

The SCDF has recovered 14 bodies so far at Khao Lak. - CNA
