SINGAPORE : Singapore's air quality continues to worsen as the Pollutant Standards Index or PSI reading hits 56 and within the moderate range.

A total of 509 bush fires have been reported since the start of the year.

This figure is more than the total number of such fires in the whole of last year.

And amid the soaring temperatures and haze, the air quality on Monday hit the moderate range for the first time this year.

And the situation has left many wondering when things will improve.

The National Environment Agency says that the dry spell should be over by the end of the month.

Rain fell over the Thomson area on Thursday.

"It's cooler and I can sleep at home."

"In my area there are lots of fires these few days so if it's raining now it will put out the fire and the weather is not so hot." - CNA
