The Islamic Religious Council of Singapore or MUIS has expressed its unhappiness over the caricatures of Prophet Mohammad published in some European papers recently.

In a statement, MUIS says the European publications claim that the caricatures are to test free expression.

But MUIS feels their intention seems to be to incite Muslim anger unnecessarily.

And it adds that such an action is unfortunate, especially in civilised societies.

MUIS says that in Singapore, no one is allowed to ridicule or cast aspersions on the faith of a person under the cloak of free expression. - CNA/ir
