Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong has said he wants to continue to engage and encourage more Singaporeans to step forward so that together, solutions can be worked out for a better country.

He said the government has given Singaporeans room to express themselves and try out their ideas.

Speaking at a PAP rally site situated beside the Buangkok MRT station on Thursday night, Mr Lee highlighted how PAP candidate Charles Chong and his grassroots leaders lobbied for the station to be opened.

He said they might have stepped over the boundaries slightly but it showed they were willing to do so for the sake of residents.

"That's the right spirit we want. We want people to participate, we want people to get engaged, do it within the law, you can do a lot within the law and if your motives are good and you want to do good for your people, for the community, for Singapore, you can do it and you ought to do it," Mr Lee said. -CNA/ir
