SINGAPORE: A 16-year-old Singaporean student has beaten the world record for sending the fastest SMS.
Ang Chuang Yang, a Raffles Institution student, clocked a time of 41.52 seconds, beating the current world record of 42.22 seconds set by American Ben Cook in July this year.
SingTel, which organised the SMS Shootout event, will submit the timing to Guiness.
Over 300 participants made the attempt without the help of the mobile phone's predictive text function or spelling aid.
Chuang Yang wins $12,000 cash and $13,000 worth of prizes.
He is the second Singaporean to win the title. In 2004, Kimberly Yeo put Singapore in the Guinness World Records with the time of 43.24 seconds. - CNA /dt
