SINGAPORE: The Singapore Lions are confident of retaining their ASEAN Football Championship title.
Singapore Head Coach Raddy Avramovich says he has a full squad to choose from for Wednesday's first leg of the final, unlike when Singapore lost to Thailand in the King's Cup last month.
The Lions are promising a different match from last month when they lost to Thailand in the King's Cup.
"Actually, in that tournament we never have a chance to play with a team that is best at that moment. Now it's a different situation, I think most players will be available for the game. This means we can put our best team," said Raddy.
Fans can expect to see Singapore's first choice line-up on the pitch, spurred on by some vocal support.
The players hope they can emulate past ASEAN Championships - in 1998 and 2005 - when they lifted the trophy.
However, Thailand are three-time winners, so the Football Association of Singapore hopes a capacity crowd, such as the one in the last round when Singapore beat Malaysia, will help the home side go into the second leg in a healthy position.
However, confident or not, it's about how the team performs in the match.
"I'm not sure the coach plans for the team tactically, so if I were to play, I just give my best I don't think about scoring. If I have the chance to score I will make it count," said Muhammad Ridhuan.
Channel 5 will be showing both legs of the ASEAN Football Championship Final between Singapore and Thailand "live".
The first leg is in Singapore on Wednesday and the return match in Bangkok on Sunday.
The "live" telecast starts at 7.50pm. - CNA /dt
