SINGAPORE: It was a soft penalty, says the man in the middle of the storm over the penalty kick awarded to Singapore in the first leg of the Asean Football Championship final.
Singapore striker Noh Alam Shah, who was deemed to have been fouled by Thailand's Niweat Siriwong in Wednesday's clash, however agrees the referee's decision is final in any game.
He said: "I think it is a soft penalty from the start, because I didn't expect the referee to give a penalty. But from what I feel during the game, I had felt that Niweat had held on to me basically just to break his fall, and I think the referee had seen it in a different light."
Alam Shah was speaking as the Lions left for Bangkok for the second leg of the final.
Only a few family members and friends were at the airport to send the team off on Friday morning.
The mood was light-hearted but this is expected to turn a shade more serious once they arrive in Bangkok, and have to take precautionary measures as advised.
The Lions are putting the penalty incident behind them and focusing on the task at hand - that is to win the Cup a third time for Singapore.
The Lions will have two training sessions prior to the big match on Sunday. - CNA/ir
