SINGAPORE: With more than 20,000 jobs on offer, Career 2007 promises something for everyone.

Billed as the largest career fair in the region and buoyed by a bullish economy, it hopes to draw in at least 400,000 visitors.

Marina Bay Sands Resort is among many employers scouting for candidates to fill up executive posts.

The resort alone is expected to generate 30,000 jobs by 2015 and the tourism and convention industry is set to create another 70,000 jobs in the same period.

Career 2007 will also emphasise work guidance for students and teachers, and even parents.

Theresa Yeoh, Chief Executive, Singapore Professional Centre, said: "We have found that career guidance teachers or officers in schools may not have the opportunity to mix with industry players and therefore do not know the current and future plans – where the nation is going, where the jobs are.

"So we thought it would be nice to invite 300 teachers and get SPRING, STB, EDB officers to give talks and share with these teachers so they are better equipped to advise the students."

To start them young, 500 secondary students will learn how to marry their interests and skills to a career choice.

Visitors will also get a chance to take part in career-profiling tests, free of charge.

New participants to the fair include the maritime and aerospace sectors.

Dr Aloysius Tay, Executive Director, Association of Aerospace Industries, said: "We need about 2,000 technicians and engineers for the next 10 years on an annual basis to maintain our growth in the industry and we really want local Singaporeans to be trained as skilled technicians to enable the industry to grow."

Fabian Chew, President, Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers, said: "The pavilion will not be a stand with companies offering jobs but a big part will be to offer general information for people who want to know more about the industry and to know more about the opportunities."

Career 2007 will be held at Suntec Singapore from March 1-4. - CNA/so
