JAKARTA : Singapore Technologies Telemedia has donated 500 million rupiah or some US$55,000 in aid to Jakarta flood victims through the Indonesia's Cabinet Ministers' Wives Club.

The cheque was presented by ST Telemedia's Executive President Mr Sio Tat Hiang to Indonesia's First Lady, Madam Ani Bambang Yudhoyono at Istana Merdeka, in Jakarta on Monday.

This is the second contribution made by the Singapore information-communication group for Jakarta's flood victims in two days.

Last Saturday, ST Telemedia contributed 150 million rupiah or approximately US$16,000 through the Indonesian Medical Association for medical relief assistance.

Since the flood hit the Indonesian capital early this month, ST Telemedia's Indonesian associate Indosat has provided food, logistics, medicines and paramedics in cooperation with relief agencies such as Indonesia Red Crescent.

Sio Tat Hiang, Executive President, ST Telemedia, said, "We hope that with this contribution, we are doing our small part in alleviating the woes of what is happening with the Indonesian people because of the current floods.

"We believe that the Indonesia's Cabinet (Ministers') Wives Club is doing an excellent job. We have contributed in the past and they were very dedicated in doing what they set out to do in helping the poor people of Indonesia. We believe they'll be able to do likewise with this contribution of ours." - CNA/ms
