SINGAPORE: First, it was record-breaking rainfall three months ago.
But now, it is the rising heat that is causing Singaporeans to bring out their umbrellas.
The mercury reached 34 degrees Celsius on Thursday – the highest so far this year.
Most of Singapore got less than 5 millimetres of rainfall during the first half of this month, and that was 90 percent below average for this time of the year.
Most affected were the central and eastern parts of the island.
Things were better in the west, with some moderate rain during the afternoons, but this was still quite below the national average.
National Environment Agency (NEA) said this trend was set to continue for the rest of the month, with some scattered rain in the afternoons.
Heavy rainfall and hot afternoons are expected in March and April.
