SINGAPORE: The Agri-Food and Veterinary Authority of Singapore (AVA) has confirmed that Salmonella, a food-borne bacteria, is not present in any of its samples of Peter Pan Peanut Butter.
The AVA tested the product after receiving reports from the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) that the peanut butter might be tainted with Salmonella.
Earlier this month, FDA reports named the bacteria as the likely cause of nearly 300 food-poisoning cases across the United States.
These cases were linked to jars of Peter Pan Peanut Butter which had the numbers 2-1-1-1 imprinted on the lids.
Symptoms of the food-borne illness caused by the bacteria include diarrhoea, stomach cramps and fever.
Those with weak immunity may face more serious illnesses and even death.
