SINGAPORE: Over 1,600 people took part in the National Vertical Marathon at the Republic Plaza on Sunday morning - the largest number in the event's 13-year history.

The event was organised by the Nanyang Technological University Sports Club.

Participants eagerly warmed up bright and early to climb 60 storeys of the building.

And soon, they were off.

Participants found it easy in the initial steps. But many were panting and sweating as they ascended.

Water points along the way came in handy for many.

Despite the tiring climb, some still managed to pose for the camera.

But nothing was more gratifying than eventually climbing up all 60 storeys. - CNA/ir
