SINGAPORE : Students in Singapore have lent a hand to their fellow learners in Laos.

Ngee Ann Polytechnic (NP) has contributed 100 laptops and desktops to 10 primary schools there, to help make the learning of English a more enjoyable experience for the children.

The beneficiaries are part of the Quality School Project, one of many community service initiatives launched by the polytechnic.

Previously, NP had constructed a library and community centre.

And there will soon be collaborations with other local institutions to build another library in June this year.

Singapore's community involvement projects in Laos do not just end there.

Students from Bartley Secondary School have also volunteered to refurbish a hospital unit in Vientiane.

Singapore's Education Minister, Mr Tharman Shanmugaratnam, who visited Laos on March 11, praised the schools for their initiatives in launching the projects.

During the visit, he also met various Laotian ministers. - CNA /ls
