President of French Senate calls on President Nathan

SINGAPORE : The President of the French Senate called on President S R Nathan at the Istana on March 21.

Mr Nathan and his guest, Mr Christian Poncelet, affirmed the excellent relations and long-standing bilateral cooperation between Singapore and France.

Both leaders also noted the similar perspectives the two countries shared on global issues.

President Nathan also briefed Mr Poncelet on the progress ASEAN has made, since its formation, as well as the challenges faced by the region.

The two men also stressed the importance of ties between ASEAN and the European Union, in light of the 30th anniversary of ASEAN-EU relations. - CNA /ls
