SINGAPORE : All three bidders for the new Sports Hub have come up with "truly spectacular" proposals, and the design proposed would put Singapore on the sporting map.

This is according to the Community Development, Youth and Sports Minister Dr Vivian Balakrishnan.

Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of a Singapore Sports Council event on Wednesday evening, he added that the designs proposed ensured that the hub would be full of activity throughout the week.

Dr Balakrishnan said the authorities would have a hard time choosing the winning bid.

He said, "You will see the designs take advantage of the fact that they're in the tropics. It takes advantage of our location by the water. It reflects our maritime identity and history. It will be unique and identifiable as a Singapore icon.

"By working with the private sector and in fact giving them a very strong financial incentive, we will see a much more vibrant and packed calendar of events and a packed stadium." - CNA/ms
