SINGAPORE : Over 90 MediaCorp stars gathered on Thursday to celebrate the 25th anniversary of local Chinese drama production.

It was also an occasion for the unit to take stock of its progress over the last quarter of a century.

The unit has not only produced memorable dramas that got Singaporeans and overseas Chinese viewers glued to the goggle box, it also spawned a galaxy of home-grown stars and groomed an army of studio production talents.

MediaCorp dramas are widely distributed in Asia, US and Canada.

MediaCorp also regularly holds joint-productions with broadcasters in China, Malaysia and Taiwan.

"Our Chinese dramas have been so much a part of our viewers' lives that many of us grew up with these local productions. It's probably hard for many of us to imagine life without the daily dose of these Chinese dramas to relax after a hard day's work," said MediaCorp CEO Lucas Chow.

"Moving forward, we will continue to leverage on both the commitment and talents of our team, as well as the support of the media and our partners, towards achieving our goal of delivering valued content to the world." - CNA /ls
