SINGAPORE : Ice cream lovers had a field day on Tuesday as ice-cream maker Ben & Jerry's celebrated its annual Global Free Cone Day at its 8 stores across Singapore.

It is not everyday that MediaCorp's Chairman Ho Kwon Ping and CEO Lucas Chow take instructions for a fun job.

The duo took off their jackets and ties, and donning an apron and a cap, scooped out a free flow of Ben & Jerry's ice cream cones - all for a good cause.

In Singapore, the Free Cone Day is Ben & Jerry's way of thanking the community for their support.

It also aimed to raise funds and awareness for its adopted charity Amazing Kidz.

The company hopes to spread the message - that "If it's melted, it's ruined!"

And it is not just talking about ice cream, but global warming also and how the Earth's glaciers are melting rapidly, raising sea levels and wreaking havoc in weather patterns.

It is teaming up with Environmental Challenge Organisations Singapore to urge people to make small changes in their lifestyles - which could reduce carbon emissions by 5 percent.

That earthly message may take a while to sink in.

But for the many ice cream fans, it was all cool and heavenly - especially when dished out by two friendly media bosses. - CNA/ch
