SINGAPORE : Senior transport officials from Singapore and Malaysia will be meeting on Tuesday to hold preliminary discussions on the opening up of the lucrative Kuala Lumpur-Singapore air route.

This route is currently dominated by the national carriers of both countries, under the terms of a 34-year-old air services agreement.

Low-cost carriers like Air Asia and Tiger Airway are eager to get a slice of this pie and they will be keeping a close eye on the outcome of such government-to-government talks.

The meeting is also expected to include other bilateral issues relating to transport. - CNA/ms
