SINGAPORE: Employers value older workers because of their reduced likelihood to job-hop.

This coupled with other findings was released in a Manpower Ministry survey on the Conditions for Employment of Older Workers, which polled some 2,900 private sector companies.

The results also indicated that 70 per cent of those in the 40s and 50s are hired because of relevant work experience.

Such people are also valued because of their ability to mentor younger staff.

The most common barrier to employment for older folk was their inability to meet the physical demands of the job. - CNA/yy
