SINGAPORE: Singapore's Home Affairs Ministry says the Internal Security Department (ISD) has continued to disrupt the Jemaah Islamiyah terrorist network.
Between November last year and April this year, four more Singapore JI members were issued with Orders of Detention under the Internal Security Act while a fifth was issued with a Restriction Order.
The four detained are Ishak Mohamed Noohu, Mohamed Hussain Saynudin, Mohamed Yassin Mohamed Nooh and Ibrahim Mohd Noor.
Ishak, a senior member of the Singapore JI network, fled Singapore in December 2001 following ISD's security operations.
He was involved in various plans by the JI including mounting attacks against foreign targets in Singapore and hijacking a plane.
Mohamed Hussain and Mohamed Yassin, both members of the Singapore JI network, left Singapore in August 2001 to pursue Arabic studies overseas.
After the 2001 ISD operation, they deliberately stayed overseas to avoid the Singapore authorities.
Mohamed Hussain had undergone terrorist training with the Lashkar e-Tayyiba and had abetted Singaporean Abdul Basheer in his militant jihad plans.
Mohamed Yassin had been involved in fund raising for the JI and had undergone JI training in Malaysia.
He has since been released by ISD under a Suspension Direction.
Ibrahim Mohd Noor, a trained JI operative, fled in December 2001 and had conducted terrorist reconnaissance against local establishments in Singapore.
The ISD also issued a Restriction Order against Jamil Ansani who had assisted the JI in some of its operational reconnaissance activities.
Four JI detainees, who have been detained since September 2002, were released under the Suspension Direction this month.
The Ministry says Mohamed Noor Sulaimi, Naharudin Sabtu, Nordin Parman and Syed Ibrahim have cooperated with ISD on investigations into JI and have responded positively to rehabilitation.
They no longer pose a security threat to Singapore that warrants preventive detention. - CNA/ir
