SINGAPORE: The Health Ministry and the Singapore Pharmacy Board are proposing changes to the current Pharmacists Registration Act.
This is to bring the profession in line with new developments in the industry.
Key changes include compulsory continuing professional education for pharmacists where they will have to fulfil 50 hours of retraining over a 24-month period.
There are also plans to set up a Pharmacists Specialist Register and to introduce a more rigorous disciplinary proceedings framework.
The present Singapore Pharmacy Board will also be converted into a new statutory body called the Singapore Pharmacy Council.
Before finalising all this, the Health Ministry and the Singapore Pharmacy Board want the views of the public and practitioners.
An e-consultation paper on the Pharmacists Registration Bill draft has been published on the ministry's website – www.moh.gov.sg – and feedback should reach the ministry by 6 July.
