SINGAPORE: Besides opportunities, new media also comes with its set of challenges.

This is according to Minister for Information, Communications and the Arts, Lee Boon Yang.

Speaking at a forum, he said media companies must continually refresh products and services.

And as for governments, the challenge is to manage dangers which include self-radicalisation through the internet.

Dr Lee added that the long-term impact on society is still little understood.

But it will eventually have a bearing on how Singapore manages the growth of interactive digital media.

"International and domestic developments therefore need to be continually scanned and discussed. Industry, academia, legal and government representatives around the world must collectively think and re-think the legal, social, and ethical issues that emerge," he said. - CNA/yy
