SINGAPORE: According to Senior Parliamentary Secretary Dr Amy Khor, Singapore will spare no efforts to control the dengue epidemic.

Dr Khor was speaking to reporters after a Fun Walk at the Narpani Sports Spectra where some 1,500 people took part in the event to promote sports activity and a healthy lifestyle.

She reminded Singaporeans to stay vigilant against dengue and to remove all Aedes mosquito breeding sites.

She said the government will spend millions of dollars controlling dengue and encouraging town councils to flush out the problem.

Dr Khor said: "We're more concerned with making sure that we mitigate this problem. If we have to put in more manpower, we will do so. Our key concern at this point in time is to minimise the number of dengue cases and we'll spare no efforts in doing so."

Dr Teo Ho Pin, Mayor, Northwest CDC, said: "It's going to be a sustained programme, so what we'll do is an outreach first. We'll monitor the situation because all of us must stay alert at all times.

"If there's a need to do more, we'll continue to do more. We hope the residents will understand the message and go on to share it with their neighbours."
