Those of you attending the National Day Parade (NDP) this year might notice something different about the funpack.
Called the Assembly bag, each is made up of three rectangular fabric panels that can be detached and reassembled to create bags of different sizes and colours. The waterproof panels come in six bright colours, allowing parade-goers the chance to exchange them with others to mix and match their own styles. The panels are joined by open-ended nylon zippers and allow the bags to be customised to any size possible, said DesignSingapore Council director Dr Milton Tan.
"We expect that every parade-goer will leave the event with a different coloured bag from what he or she was given. If you beg, borrow or steal, there is no limit to how big a bag you can put together," he joked.
DesignSingapore Council, a public organisation for promoting and developing local design, commissioned Singaporean graphic designer Hanson Ho, 33, to conceptualise the funpack. The bag, of which 160,000 have been manufactured, each contains 28 items including a light-emitting electrical fan, visor, face tattoos, snacks and two bottles of Newater. There is also a blank panel for parade-goers to design and express their vision for Singapore, and the best entries will be displayed at an exhibition in conjunction with this year's Singapore Design Festival. - TODAY/sh
