SINGAPORE : From July 5, immigration clearance for motorcyclists at Woodlands will be much faster as new lanes will be opened for them.

This dedicated mini checkpoint is an extension of the existing Woodlands Checkpoint.

The lanes will be opened only during the morning peak hours from 5am to 10am.

But the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) said operating hours might vary, depending on the situation each day.

Motorcylists with the biometric identification system will not be able to get automated clearance at the new lanes.

The automated system is only available at the main Woodlands Checkpoint.

ICA said the dedicated motorcylist clearance zone is expected to ease the heavy morning traffic and enhance security at the clearance checkpoints at the same time.

Of the 86 million travellers who use the Woodlands checkpoint last year, 30% of them were motorcyclists. - CNA /ls
