SINGAPORE: Cuesports President Subash Anandan has set a bold target of three gold medals for the sport at this year's SEA Games.
The well-known criminal lawyer, who took over the sports association in 2006, has also helped it to clear half of the S$750,000 debts accumulated by the previous committee.
Anandan, who plans to clear all the debts by next year, said he would not renew his term.
The Singaporean team is hoping to better the 2005 SEA Games record of one gold medal this year.
And with more talent and a new leadership in charge, the prospects look good.
Anandan said: "From what I have gathered from the coaches, the standards have improved tremendously. We are hoping to get at least three gold medals, in our snooker 9 Ball and 8 Ball.. with a bit of luck, maybe more."
And one of those who could get a gold medal for Singapore is new citizen Peter Gilchrist.
A former World Billiards Champ, Gilchrist is both player and coach for the Singapore team.
He is using the upcoming World Billiards Championships that Singapore is hosting for the first time as a tune-up for the SEA Games.
Gilchrist said: "I am playing quite well at the moment. I have just won the Asian Billiards Championships and the European Billiards Championships. My game's good. I have still got quite a bit of work onboard. By September, I should be having some good form. Hopefully, I can win it."
Singapore's other gold prospects are in the snooker and pool events.
After taking care of high-level competition and setting the house in order, the current president is setting his sights on youth development.
The finals of the Schools Snooker Tournament that was held on Saturday saw nine schools competing.
ACS Barker Road won the overall title, with some players eligible to be part of the national training squad.
