SINGAPORE: Singapore sailors have made it to the first qualifying round of the 2008 Olympic games.

The pairs of Roy Tay/Chung Pei Ming and Xu Yuan Zhen/Terence Koh have qualified Singapore in the 470 men event at the ISAF Sailing World Championship, in Cascais, Portugal.

After five races, Roy Tay/Chung Pei Ming are currently in the 36th position. Team mates Xu Yuan Zhen/Terence Koh are trailing behind at 37th place.

Both pairs have made it to the gold fleet. The 470 fleets are divided into gold, silver and bronze fleets.

In the 470 women class, sailors Dawn Liu Xiaodan/Elizabeth Tan and Toh Liying/Deborah Ong only made it to the silver fleet.

Their next attempt to make it to the qualifying round will be in January next year.

Maximilian Soh also did not make it for the qualifying round, having finished the Laser class at the 35th position.

Victoria Chan, the youngest Singapore representative, did not make it for this Olympic qualifier.
