SINGAPORE: A five-men medical team from the Singapore Armed Forces has returned home after a humanitarian dental project in Afghanistan.
Lieutenant Colonel (LTC) Lee Kuan Chung and his team were deployed to the Bamiyan Province in May this year as part of the New Zealand Defence Force Provincial Reconstruction Team.
While they were there, they helped to set up the province's first dental clinic at Bamiyan Hospital.
They also conducted a dental assistance course and provided on-the-job training for the Afghan staff who are running the clinic.
Together with their Afghan counterparts, the SAF team provided dental care and services to more than 900 patients over eight weeks.
The SAF has also deployed another five-men engineering team to Afghanistan in late July.
The team is led by LTC Ong Chia Chong to help in bridge construction and repair projects in the central Bamiyan.
They are expected to return on 31 October.
