SINGAPORE: Bilateral relations between Singapore and Indonesia remain firm because they go back a long way and are deep-rooted.

This is according to Senior Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Zainul Abidin Rasheed, who was speaking at the Singapore National Day reception in Pekanbaru.

Mr Zainul Abidin added that Singapore's next phase of assistance in Aceh is the rebuilding of the Meulaboh General Hospital.

Singapore is also continuing with its programme to enhance the skills of Riau officials through training courses in Singapore.

Mr Zainul Abidin said he hopes to encourage more people-to-people interaction between both sides to generate goodwill and trust.

This would provide a strong foundation to further develop bilateral ties.
