SINGAPORE : Fans of Vietnamese culture had a rare treat at the Esplanade on Saturday evening.

The "Charming Vietnam Gala" - billed as the country's greatest cultural show - is a two-hour showcase of Vietnamese music and fashion.

Guests were treated to a glitzy performance by 23 beauty queens and top models.

An opera play from the north of Vietnam, about a woman turning into a rock while waiting for her husband, portrayed the soulful life of the Vietnamese people.

One of the highlights included the transformation of the concert hall into a 19th century Vietnamese court, with lanterns, royal costumers and folk art performances.
