Missing armed NSman caught in Orchard Road

SINGAPORE: The Internet community is abuzz with speculation on why and how the armed NSman could get away from camp with a military rifle.

There is no official confirmation on what happened after Corporal Dave Teo Ming was handed the weapon and bullets for guard duty at Mandai Hill Camp.

He went missing just before midnight on Sunday.

The 20-year-old was found and arrested at Orchard Cineleisure on Monday evening, after a massive manhunt.

Eyewitnesses said the arrest happened quickly, without much commotion. And retailers said toilets on the third floor were cordoned off for about two hours.

Security at the popular mall appeared tighter on Tuesday.

And postings on the case have filled up online forums, with some wondering why Cpl Teo made such radical moves when he was slated to complete his full-time national service next month.

Others speculated it was a failed relationship that may have pushed him over the edge.

A blog believed to belong to Cpl Teo's former girlfriend also received many hits.

Her last entry on the blog was made in April this year. - CNA/ac
