CHINA : Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong, who is on a working visit to Dalian in China, will be meeting Liaoning party secretary Li Keqiang on Wednesday afternoon.

Party Secretary Li is said to be one of those groomed for top leadership position.

On Wednesday evening, Mr Goh will also officiate at the launch of Dalian Ascendas IT park, which is possibly the biggest IT park of its kind in China.

SM Goh is on a working visit to Dalian to attend a meeting of the Young Global Leaders Foundation Board.

His first stop was a meeting with Dalian Mayor Xia Deren.

The two leaders last met in March this year when Mr Xia visited Singapore.

Mayor Xia pointed out that under Mr Goh's leadership, cooperation between Dalian and Singapore has borne concrete results.

An example is the Dalian Ascendas IT Park.

The senior minister said Ascendas, a government-owned company, will make the Dalian IT Park just as good, if not better than the successful one it has developed in Bangalore.

Mr Goh, who encouraged Mayor Xia to look at getting Dalian companies listed in Singapore, also raised the issue of promoting tourism between Dalian and Singapore through the provision of direct flights.

In the days ahead, Mr Goh will be meeting Premier Wen Jiabao and other Chinese leaders. - CNA/so
