SINGAPORE : MediaCorp's mocca.com is the number one classifieds website in Singapore.

It's been trending at 7 million page views over the past month, and it is now home to more than 13,000 advertisements with postings at the rate of one ad per minute.

Launched only in July this year, mocca.com's tongue-in-cheek commercials have caught the attention of many Singaporeans.

And listings have snowballed by over 700% in just two months.

Property is the hottest category.

Property agent Wilson Chong said he got responses to his ad within half an hour.

"People are calling me with their enquiries... More people are logging onto the net, and that generates better response, hopefully not only the local market but the overseas market as well," said Chong.

Online intelligence service Hitwise said mocca.com has captured more than one third of the Internet classifieds market.

According to Hitwise, the online classifieds industry in Singapore has grown by more than half in the last two years.

But classified websites only account for 0.2% of Internet visits in Singapore, compared to 1.1% in the US market.

Timothy Goh, VP of New Media Business at MediaCorp said: "It's a fairly large market out there, and the market is still in an educational mode. We'll continue to put in more features in mocca. Already, you can put videos and images in there.

"We'll also roll out features like community and power search where you can have more fine tuning of the search that you want, in categories like vehicles or property."

The website has about 40,000 registered members, more than 90% of whom are active. - CNA /ls
