SINGAPORE: The world's largest plane – Airbus A380 – will take off on its first commercial flight on Thursday, 25 October at 8am.

Singapore Airlines' A380 will be making its inaugural flight from Singapore to Sydney, and then back to Singapore on Friday night, 26 October, 10.15pm.

Passengers from countries such as Australia and Germany are now in Singapore for this maiden flight. Some of them even met up for a social gathering on Wednesday evening.

A passenger from Australia, Ian Goodwin, who is also the creator of website www.SQ380.net, said: "It's going to be a big event, it's a world first. I think we are just lucky that we got seats on this aircraft and on this flight. It's going to be good fun; it's going to be a big party flight."

Ulli, a passenger from Germany, said: "Technical things are very interesting to me, and this is a technical milestone."
