SINGAPORE : Using sports to spread the message of racial and religious harmony: this is what the Singapore Racial and Religious Harmony Marathon Relay hopes to achieve.

The event is jointly organised by the Sikh Welfare Council and OnePeople.sg.

Dr Vivian Balakrishnan, the Community Development Youth and Sports Minister, got the relay off on Saturday.

He led the first leg starting at the Sikh Temple at Wilkie Road.

The group then moved on to religious institutions of other faiths.

About one thousand runners from the Sikh community and other organisations are running in 15 sectors islandwide.

The overnight run will end on Sunday morning at another Sikh temple at Wilkinson Road in Katong. - CNA/ch
