SINGAPORE : The MediaCorp Radio Subaru Challenge is back again for the 6th year running.
This time it is a contest that started with 388 participants but, in the end, only the top two will drive away with a free car each.
Just how long can the contestants last this time round?
Participants need hands that stick like glue in order to win this contest and it is much harder than it looks.
Just 34 minutes after the challenge started, the first contestant dropped out.
A fortunate few had the luck of the draw, being just metres away from the air-conditioned breeze blowing from the shopping mall.
But for some, it is going to be a good tan from the hot baking sun.
Rahmat Kasmin, Contestant, says: "It's very tough, tough day I will try my best to hold on till end of the day or end of the game."
The end could be another two or three days more.
But some are more prepared than others.
William Chia, Contestant, says: "Before I took part, one week ago I went on a very simple diet and a lot of rest. These few days we have got to last, make sure that the call of nature won't give me a problem."
Sandra Yeow, Contestant, says: "I take it as a personal challenge since I was there two years back. I clocked like 64 hours and now I'm trying to beat my own record."
And with marshals giving contestants a cool spray of mist every now and then, life could be easier for those new to the game.
Alvin Koh, Contestant, says: "Actually I didn't do much preparation, I have more of my friends' support, and their bet. My friends betted on me and see how long I can "tah han" (last) but I don't know how much they bet or who, I don't care who wins or lose, I'll get a free lunch from them."
Rachel Chan, Contestant, says: "Think of my parents, family, friends, the money I'm going to spend if I win it. Stuff like that keep your mind occupied so you won't feel the pain standing, the hand getting cramped."
Anonie Chan, Contestant, says: "My strategy is to talk. Just keep awake, and at times rest for a while. If you take power naps you can go a longer distance. I believe this is a once-in-a-lifetime experience, my friends were like asking me why. 'Are you crazy? You wouldn't get a car' I told them I will and I must persist because of that."
Participants get a bathroom break - a brief 5 minute pit stop - every 6 hours. - CNA/ch
