ASEAN Summit In Singapore

SINGAPORE: A small group of international students showed up in red t-shirts to protest against the Myanmar military government on the fringe of the ASEAN summit.

The students gathered some 500 metres away from the summit venue at Shangri-La Hotel, staying in small groups of three to avoid running foul of police rules which state that any gathering of five or more people requires a police permit.

The students lighted candles and wore t-shirts to express their solidarity with the Myanmar people.

Police officers advised them against proceeding with any activities that may violate Singapore's laws.

The few small groups, which were greatly outnumbered by the police and the media, dispersed peacefully soon after with no incident. - CNA/ac
