President Nathan thanks Cambodian king for search efforts in dragon boat tragedy

SINGAPORE: President S R Nathan has sent a letter to Cambodian King Norodom Sihamoni to thank him for the great efforts taken in the search and recovery operation in the recent dragon boat tragedy.

In his letter, President Nathan said he was deeply appreciative of all the help rendered to the Singapore embassy and to the families of the bereaved, the injured and the other team members.

He added that Singaporeans from all walks of life greatly appreciate the assistance rendered and sympathy expressed by many Cambodians in Phnom Penh.

President Nathan said both countries share close bonds in many areas and that the Cambodian government's efforts during the recent tragic episode underscore this very close link.

On behalf of the people of Singapore and the bereaved families, President Nathan also thanked the Cambodian king for his kind words of comfort. - CNA/ir
