SINGAPORE: Three international business leaders were conferred national honours by President S R Nathan at the Istana on Monday.

Two of them received the Public Service Star (Distinguished Friends of Singapore).

They are the CEO and Chairman of the Board of Micron Technology Inc, Steven R. Appleton, and the CEO and President of Wacker-Chemie, Peter-Alexander Wacker.

The Economic Development Board said that the Distinguished Friends of Singapore Award recognises outstanding contributions of international heads of organisations to Singapore's economy over a sustained period.

They have played a significant role in strengthening Singapore's business and technological capabilities, specifically in knowledge-intensive, capital-intensive and innovative activities.

The other award, the Public Service Medal, was given to Cameron International Corporation's Vice President of Business Development in Asia Pacific and Middle East, Erik Peyrer.

This award recognises the company's efforts in promoting Singapore's growth and interests beyond their corporate boundaries.
