SINGAPORE : The Singapore musicians who make up the group "Rhythm Masala" are getting ready to make a name for themselves on the international scene, once again.

The drumming enthusiasts already hold the Guinness World Record for the longest drumming session in 2004 when they played for 50 hours non stop.

Their next aim is to rock the audience when they play at the inaugural World Drums Festival in Kuala Lumpur. The event takes place from Thursday till next Monday.

"Rhythm Masala" will feature six members; each is an expert in his own field such as the African djembe and the Latino timbales.

They will join other drummers from the region - such as Indonesia, Japan, Thailand, Malaysia, Sri Lanka and Vietnam - at the World Drums Festival, which will be held at various venues around the Malaysian capital.

The highlight will be the opening ceremony at the Merdeka Square on Saturday. The ceremony is part of the countdown celebrations to usher in the new year.

Paskaran Sreekaram, Founder, Rhythm Masala, said: "For this festival, there's a selection committee, a steering committee and they've selected our group from Singapore to represent the country, and there'll be other groups coming from Japan, Korea, Malaysia and Indonesia... So it's a great opportunity to showcase our piece." - CNA/ms
