SINGAPORE: While some youths have gone abroad on holiday during this break in December, some stayed in Singapore to organise a carnival which promotes multi-culturalism through sports, arts and heritage.
It is the first-ever carnival at the *scape park – a community space in Orchard Road for youths, comprising the open area next to Cineleisure.
Besides having fun, some of the youths said they have grown wiser.
Moses Soh, a student participant, said: "I've learnt a lot about racial harmony, for one. Also, we've done a lot of organising. It took a lot of organisational skills when we are doing this."
The carnival is a joint effort by nearly a hundred students aged between 14 and 16.
They got the one-day CampTeen Carnival up and running within one and a half months by roping in students to perform.
Zuraidah Abdullah, member of the OnePeople.sg Executive Committee, said: "I think it's important that they learn from each other first, and at the same time, also understand the other races and religion. By getting together as a team, they know one another much better."
Besides racial harmony, the students also showed their support for Singapore's bid to host the Youth Olympic Games in 2010.
