SINGAPORE: More than 40 questions have been submitted for oral answer at Monday's Parliament sitting.

They ranged from concerns about the impact of rising inflation on the lower-income to the rampant gambling and prostitution in Geylang and online cheating scams.

Members of Parliament wanted to know if additional measures are in place to help needy Singaporeans cope with rising inflation and health care costs.

Following the recent sports-related accidents, they also asked for steps to avoid future mishaps.

One MP was concerned if the GIC’s and Temasek Holding’s billion-dollar investments in distressed banks were made at a bad time, as the effect of the sub-prime crisis has not been measured yet.

On the international front, some MPs asked for an assessment of the ASEAN Summit in 2007, and an update on the Myanmar issue.

One new bill, the Internationally Protected Persons Bill, will be introduced, while six amended bills are up for approval.

These include the Housing and Development (Amendment) Bill and Human Organ Transplant (Amendment) Bill. - CNA/vm
