PM Lee to pay final respects to Suharto on Sunday evening

SINGAPORE : Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong will be going to Jakarta on Sunday evening to pay his final respects to former Indonesian president Suharto.

Deputy Prime Minister Prof S Jayakumar will be Singapore's representative at former President Suharto's funeral in Solo on Monday.

A Singapore Foreign Affairs Ministry statement says it is "saddened by the news of the passing of former Indonesian President Suharto".

It adds Singapore conveys its "deepest sympathies to the Indonesian people for their profound loss".

The former Indonesian leader died at 1:10pm on Sunday of multiple organ failure after three weeks in hospital. - CNA/ch
