SINGAPORE : Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong will in the Middle East for a week-long visit from January 28 to February 3, as part of Singapore's ongoing efforts to deepen political and economic engagement with the region.
His first stop is Doha, Qatar, at the invitation of the Heir Apparent Sheikh Tamim Hamad Al-Thani.
Mr Goh, who last visited Qatar in April 2005, will also meet the Amir, Shiekh Hamad Khalifa Al-Thani, and other members of the royal family and the cabinet.
He will also address the inaugural Qatar-Singapore Business Forum, jointly organised by the Qatari Businessmen Association and the Singapore Business Federation.
Mr Goh will officiate the unveiling of the foundation stone for the Doha North Sewage Treatment Works, a S$1.5 billion project awarded to Keppel Seghers.
Several agreements will also be signed to further business cooperation and facilitate exchanges of experience on the development of SMEs.
During the trip, Mr Goh will also visit the Qatar Foundation, the ASPIRE sports academy and Pearl-Qatar.
After Doha, Mr Goh will be on a working visit to Dubai, UAE from February 1-3.
He will meet members of the Dubai royal family, ministers, business leaders and Singaporeans working there.
Also on the agenda are visits to iconic development like Palm Jumeirah, Mall of the Emirates and Burj Dubai.
Mr Goh will be accompanied by Minister of State for Education Lui Tuck Yew, MP and Chairman of the Parliamentary Group on the Middle East Dr Ahmad Magad, senior government officials and a Singapore business delegation. - CNA /ls
