SINGAPORE : Comfort Delgro will pass on to its cabbies the full 15% cut in road tax which was announced by Transport Minister Raymond Lim on Wednesday.

The reduction, which comes into effect in July this year, amounts to S$180 based on the annual road tax of S$1,200 which Comfort Delgro pays on each of its 15,000 taxis.

Comfort Delgro said details on how the refund to drivers will be made will be worked out following consultations with the group's taxi associations.

Meanwhile, the Taxi Operators' Association said it welcomes the move by taxi companies to pass on the savings to hirers.

Advisor to the association, Seng Han Thong, urged all taxi companies to put the savings into the Medisave accounts of taxi drivers.

Mr Seng added that this will strengthen the social safety net of taxi drivers.

Savings from the road tax cut is estimated at S$5 million. - CNA /ls
