SINGAPORE: The annual Job Week was launched by Singapore's Chief Scout, President S R Nathan, at the Istana on Tuesday.

More than 10,000 scouts aged between 8 and 18 will visit homes and offices seeking jobs in return for cash donations during the March school holiday period (8-13 March).

Besides raising funds for their individual units and the Singapore Scout Association, the basic objective of the event is character training and building.

As part of the launch, selected scouts performed a series of jobs, such as floor sweeping and window cleaning, at the Istana.

Last year, the scouts raised some S$572,414; and their target this year is S$580,000. - CNA/ac
