SINGAPORE : A 38-year-old man has been charged in court with child abuse when he allegedly caned his 10-year-old stepson some 100 times repeatedly.

The man, who cannot be named to protect the identity of the boy, had allegedly used two rattan canes to hit the boy repeatedly on his buttocks, arms and back, at a flat in Sembawang in September last year.

The case will be mentioned again on April 2, as the accused said he wanted to seek legal advice.

If found guilty, he faces up to four years in jail, or a fine of up to $4,000. - CNA/de
