SINGAPORE: German optical lens maker, Carl Zeiss, has set up its first and only advanced imaging centre in the world, here in Singapore.

The company plans to use its S$28 million demo facility to spearhead growth in the region.

Hermann Gerlinger from the Executive Board of Carl Zeiss Group, said: “Nowadays, Asia has captured close to 70% of the worldwide production of chips. So it's clear that a lot of manufacturing equipment is needed here in Asia, and this is one of the markets we are striving for."

Located at the International Business Park, the centre will be used to develop new applications for its customers in the region.

Carl Zeiss expects sales from Asia to boost global revenues by 20 per cent in two years. - CNA/vm
