SINGAPORE : The month of May will see the launch of Public Service Week with 110,000 public officers taking a pledge on their commitment and dedication to serve Singapore and Singaporeans.

Public Service Week organised centrally by the Public Service Division, will be observed from 14 to 20 May and will be marked annually by observance ceremonies both in Singapore and abroad.

During the week, there will be centralised events such as the PS21 Star Service Award which is an annual event that recognises officers who have delivered excellent service, as well as community events.

The week of events will end with a reception hosted by the President for about 800 public officers at the Istana.

According to the Public Service Division, the effort aims to remind all public officers of their role in advancing Singapore. It will also serve to recognise the good work done by the officers, as well as forge among them, a sense of pride in being part of the Public Service.

Public Service Week will bring officers together to celebrate their collective contributions and allow them to gain a better understanding of each others’ work.

It is hoped that the interaction will help them think beyond their own agencies when addressing issues and improving services, as well as encourage greater cooperation across agencies to better serve the public as a networked government.

The Public Service comprises 15 Ministries, nine organs of state, and more than 60 statutory boards and the combined workforce accounting for about 4 percent of Singapore’s labour force. - CNA/sf
