SINGAPORE: The development of examinations in Singapore has been documented in a book, covering three broad periods in history.

Firstly, it traces the development of examinations during the British Colonial period, from 1891 to 1945.

Secondly, it assesses the development of education and examinations from the end of the Japanese Occupation to the attainment of self-government in Singapore, from 1946 to the 1970s.

And thirdly, it examines the key policy changes in Singapore's education system in response to globalisation, from the 1980s to 2007.

The book, launched by the Singapore Examinations and Assessment Board, is out in stores from Tuesday.
